Make it clear.
The warning names what was detected, what to do, and the consequence.

A five-second countdown gives the candidate a chance to correct the issue.

An unresolved serious issue pauses the attempt for a proctor to release.
Consequences depend on the preset: a free warning, points, or a pause. Alert-only mode never pauses automatically.
01 / The candidate experience
How a candidate warning reaches a proctor.
A second person enters the frame. Here is how an unresolved serious issue is handled in a pause-enabled mode.
The candidate sees the warning
It identifies the second person in view, tells the candidate to correct the issue, and states that the attempt will pause if it remains unresolved.
Five seconds to respond
The countdown is visible. If the serious problem remains, the attempt pauses.
A proctor releases the pause
The candidate’s page cannot release its own pause. Ending an attempt is always a person’s decision.

Be specific about what is checked.
Sound level only
Optional sound-level detection. Nothing is recorded.
Looking away from the screen
Calibrated per candidate and switched off when calibration is too inaccurate. Eyes take precedence over a turned head.
False alerts per hour are measured before it counts. No global accuracy figure exists.
A browser has limits.
It cannot see a phone on the desk or block other apps. A deliberate glance of a few seconds can go unflagged by design to keep false alerts down.
03 / Data & safeguards
Local analysis.
A record you can inspect.
Face analysis stays local.
MediaPipe runs on the device. No video or image leaves the candidate’s computer during the exam.
An event record.
Which check fired, when, for how long, and what the candidate was told. This record is still personal data.

Human control
The software never fails anyone on its own. In embed and LTI integrations, stricter presets become a pause. A person decides whether to end an attempt.
Explicit exclusions
No emotion recognition, face recognition, identity matching or biometric templates.
A mode without automatic pauses
Alert-only mode warns the candidate and alerts a proctor, without pausing by itself. We supply DPIA material.
